Minister to deliver keynote address at NIBA conference

Assistant Treasurer and Financial Services Minister Stephen Jones will speak at next month’s National Insurance Brokers Association conference.

He will open the final day of the October 20-22 convention with a keynote address covering policy updates and their “potential impact” on the profession, according to NIBA’s conference program.

Mr Jones will also discuss what the coming year will look like for the economy and businesses.

“We are honoured to have [him] join us at this year’s NIBA Convention,” association CEO Richard Klipin said.

“His presence underscores the importance of collaboration between government and industry to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead for the sector and our insurance broking profession.”

Mr Jones is overseeing the Albanese government’s financial advice reforms and has said the second tranche will be developed in the second half of this year. Changes include creating a new class of advisers working at insurers and other financial institutions that provide “simple” advice.

The first tranche of reforms passed parliament in July, with new laws requiring general insurance brokers to obtain commission consent from retail clients receiving or likely to receive personal advice, effective from July 10 next year.
