Market Lane Insurance Group has expanded into New Zealand, opening a business in Christchurch.

The Sydney-based group also operates brands The Barn Underwriting Agency, GOAT Insurance and Fairlight Medical Insurance. The new venture will trade as The Barn Underwriting Agency – New Zealand.

Leading the team are Country Head New Zealand Kelsey Craver and Senior Underwriter Sarah Skelton.

“We are truly excited by our first international expansion and look forward to working with all our partners in the development of the Market Lane business in Australia, New Zealand and abroad,” Group MD David Porteous said.

The New Zealand arm’s capabilities and risk solutions will match the Australian business, with services including central operations, partnerships and engagement, claims and compliance.

Ms Craver previously held senior roles at Ando Insurance, Aon and Lions Gate Underwriting in Canada. Ms Skelton has worked at Ando, Arch Underwriting and Brooklyn Underwriting.

Last June, Market Lane launched a wholesale underwriting placement specialist, MLX Risk Partners, which focuses on placements above $200 million in asset value, large and complex general liability exposures and natural catastrophe exposures, plus unique or complex occupancy risks.
