Kell to head AFCA advisory panel

Former Australian Securities and Investments Commission deputy chair Peter Kell will lead the Australian Financial Complaints Authority’s consumer advisory panel.

Mr Kell, also a former deputy chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and previous CEO of Choice, becomes the second chair of the AFCA consumer advisory panel (ACAP) since it was started in March 2019.

“We are very fortunate to have Peter Kell join us as independent chair of ACAP. He is a well-respected consumer advocate and former regulator, who has deep knowledge of consumer protection and our regulatory environment,” AFCA chief ombudsman David Locke said.

Mr Kell takes over from Peter Gartlan, who has held the role over the past five years.

“Consumer organisations support thousands of people every year and have unique perspectives that can help inform AFCA’s work,” Mr Kell said. “I look forward to working with members of ACAP and AFCA on important issues impacting Australian consumers.”
