Insure Your Future campaign launched to promote broking careers

A new campaign to promote insurance broking as a career was launched at the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) conference on the Gold Coast this week.

The website www.insureyourfuture.com.au will be completed by the end of the year, and interested parties can already register their interest. The site will provide a range of resources for potential brokers and NIBA members.

Insure Your Future National Chairman Cameron Sheild tells insuranceNEWS.com.au that the younger generation is the campaign’s “number one target”, but NIBA also wants to attract working parents back to the industry and keep older professionals contributing too.

“Each state was working on this in silos, so a little over a year ago we formed a national committee,” Mr Sheild said.

“We do participate with the ANZIIF Careers in Insurance initiative, but this is an opportunity to look at bespoke areas within the broking profession.

“We engaged marketing experts and came up with Insure Your Future – we took broking out of the title so that we don’t get confused with other types of brokers.”

Mr Sheild says widespread ignorance about insurance as a profession is “criminal”.

“We go to career expos, and nobody knows about insurance. Insurance broking is financial services’ best kept secret.

“Insurance makes the world go round, and there’s never been a more important time for buyers of insurance to have an advocate.

“There are graduate programs, but what about school leavers that don’t go to university? We are considering apprenticeships.”

The campaign aims to give NIBA members resources to navigate the current recruitment landscape.

“We also want to encourage them to attend career events in their area.”
