Education, specialisation flagged as broking industry challenges
Outgoing National Insurance Brokers Association CEO Phil Kewin says education is a continuing challenge for the industry.
Mr Kewin, who is moving to London for personal reasons, will be replaced by Richard Klipin on May 27.
In an interview with Insurance News magazine, Mr Kewin says broking must be considered a profession, not an industry.
“We’re really trying to encourage brokers to go down the Qualified Practising Insurance Broker route, and achieve educational standards above the minimum required.
“And I think that’s probably an area that’s going to be of greater focus in the future.”
Mr Kewin also says brokers straying outside their area of specialisation can be problematic.
“If you talk to the good brokers, one of their art forms is staying in their lane and focusing on what their area of expertise is.
“I think there’s an opportunity to educate industry associations and different organisations that it is important that you deal with a specialist.”
