Delta marks milestone with new NZ office

New Zealand underwriting agency Delta Insurance has opened a new North Island office in Papamoa as it celebrates a decade of operations.

Country CEO Andrew Beaton says the office marks the next step in the company’s expansion and will host underwriters in nearby areas including the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Hawkes Bay.

The launch follows the opening of Delta’s Christchurch office last year and expansions into the Australian and Singaporean markets.

In March last year, Delta consolidated its New Zealand businesses under Mr Beaton’s leadership.

“As a born and bred New Zealand company, local business is our mainstay and we’ve addressed the regions very well from our Auckland headquarters, and more recently for the South Island with the introduction of the Christchurch office,” he said.

“In addition to the new premises, we expect to add additional underwriters and support people in due course, matching the expansion of our product portfolio with talented individuals who can help brokers meet the insurance needs of their business customers.”

Reflecting on the company’s first decade, Mr Beaton says it has worked to establish itself as a “niche operator” creating unique solutions.

“We don’t typically look to switch customers from one underwriter to another,” he said.

“Instead, we provide solutions to the risks organisations face but for which there hasn’t yet been a suitable insurance product.”

The new office will be led by experienced Property Underwriter Amy Gillum, who has been with the company since 2015, and Senior Liability Underwriter Kyle Steven. Underwriting Assistant Lisa Andrew will join them.

The three previously operated a work-from-home underwriting team out of the central North Island city of Tauranga.

“We’ve grown the Delta portfolio significantly and established a sound broker network taking our niche insurance solutions to market,” Ms Gillum said.

“A dedicated office space facilitates collaboration and provides headroom for further growth.”
