BMS creates new agriculture unit
BMS Australia has appointed Ceri Martin to lead a new agriculture division.
The new specialty business will deliver disease insurance, carbon cover and weather insurance, alongside traditional property and casualty cover.
Ms Martin, a former Vero underwriter, joins as head of agriculture from farming services company Nutrien, where she spent 14 years, most recently as key account manager for insurance.
BMS’ local CEO Andrew Godden says the business sees “numerous opportunities to expand into agriculture and collaborate with farmers across Australia”.
“We are truly thrilled to announce the launch of our agriculture division, and there is no one better suited to lead it than Ceri,” he said. “Under her leadership, the business will continue to grow and expand.”
Queensland-based Ms Martin says farmers face climate and sustainability challenges and supply chain complexity, and BMS can help navigate these evolving risks.
“As farming becomes more sophisticated, digital agriculture is becoming increasingly crucial,” she said, adding there is a need to address “a market gap by offering dynamic and innovative solutions instead of traditional insurance options”.
