Swann exits add-on market

Mr Bessell says Swann has exited the sale of the add-on products through dealerships due to the issues in the market and as the group focuses on its "customer-centric" approach.

Swann's devolved model, where it operated as a standalone business and its small amount of overall revenue at the time, may have contributed to the lack of pro-active oversight regarding the add-on process, he says.

Mr Bessell was asked his views on the wider insurance add-on market and whether he believes the products have any value.

He says he favours plans for a deferred sales model and clearer product disclosure information and a more proactive approach with assistance.

Mr Bessell says generally within the industry issues around improving disclosure are a "work in progress" and there is also dicussion about the general and personal advice distinctions.

Swann expects to complete its add-on remediation to consumers by January 31 next year and is currently about half-way through the process.

Mr Bessell has finished his evidence and has left the stand.
