WorkCover WA wants feedback on brokers’ code of practice
WorkCover WA has released a draft Workers’ Compensation Insurance Brokers’ Code of Practice and is seeking industry feedback.
WorkCover and the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) have developed the code following a 2009 review of WA’s workers’ compensation legislation.
The code has been incorporated into the draft act, which covers brokers’ role within the state’s workers’ compensation scheme, potential conflicts of interest and guidelines for brokers to engage more effectively with WorkCover. The draft also has a checklist for employers.
NIBA WA committee Chairman Marcus Pobjoy says workers’ compensation can comprise 50% of a client’s insurance premiums, and WA brokers work closely with the regulator, negotiate with insurers and handle claims.
The committee has also worked with the WA Government on changes to legislation covering common law liability and coverage of sub-contractors.
Comments should be received by 12 April.
