WA tables work health safety bill
The WA Government has tabled its Work Health and Safety Bill, allowing public consultation until January 30.
In 2008 all states and territories agreed to adopt consistent occupational health and safety laws, and WA and Victoria are the only jurisdictions yet to introduce the national model.
In August WA Attorney-General Michael Mischin introduced plans for a state-specific version of the law, and the Bill has now been tabled in Parliament.
It aims to retain the national model’s core provisions but is tailored to the state.
Meanwhile, the WA Government has approved the drafting of a bill to repeal and replace the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981.
It is hoped the new statute will be more easily understood.
