WA set to move to no-fault CTP

The WA Government looks likely to introduce a no-fault compulsory third party scheme for people catastrophically injured in motor accidents.

Premier Colin Barnett has told local media the program may be introduced within two years.

In October the Government issued a green paper proposing a no-fault scheme, with public consultation open until December 24.

About 92 people are catastrophically injured in motor vehicles in WA each year, and about 44 receive no compensation because they cannot assert fault against another driver.

The average premium of $291 for a family car would rise by $109, including GST and duty, if all catastrophically injured people are covered, or by $101 a year if only those without cover are included. Other states, except Queensland, have no-fault schemes.
