Victorian WorkCover to include super
Superannuation contributions for eligible injured workers are among the elements of Victoria’s new $90 million workers’ compensation reform package.
The State Government is putting aside $20 million for the super in a move the state’s WorkCover Minister Tim Holding says is a first for Australia.
“This recognises that superannuation is a key component of an employee’s remuneration,” he said.
Also included in the package is $20 million for increased weekly payments for injured workers and large rises in lump sum death benefits.
Victorian Premier John Brumby says the changes won’t result in higher compulsory premiums for employers.
The Government expects the reforms to be introduced into Parliament later this year, with most changes set to come into effect after the new legislation commences early next year.
