Victoria reinforces community bushfire protection
The Victorian Government will invest $1.83 million in bushfire resilience projects across 10 regional councils as it prepares for the upcoming bushfire season.
Environment and Climate Action Minister Lily D’Ambrosio says the investment will be part of the Safer Together Local Government Partnerships program to help provide rural communities with adequate protections and risk awareness for bushfires.
“We are living with a changing climate and with an increased bushfire risk – it’s critical we work together keep our rural communities safe and reduce that risk,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
The program aims to combine local expertise with the latest resilience technology to provide unique solutions to help protect at-risk regional communities.
“These grants provide an opportunity for local communities to be better prepared and develop specific programs that are tailored to local needs,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
The project promotes a year-round approach to bushfire preparation to improve coordination and partnership between rural communities and fire agencies.
The State Government says it aims to deliver the projects within the next three years.
