Victoria expands accommodation scheme for flood-affected residents
The Victorian Government has announced that it will expand its “Homes at Home” program to support recovery aid for flood-affected residents in Campaspe and Mitchell Shires and Greater Shepparton area.
The program will offer homeowners whose primary residing properties were made inhabitable by flooding last year access to caravan housing as temporary accommodation for up to three years.
Regional riverside towns in Victoria’s Goulburn region, such as Seymour and Shepparton, were devastated by flooding last October, with more than 5000 claims lodged within the first week of the event.
The State Government says the program will prioritise residents who are facing financial hardship and were uninsured for flood cover, with 200 displaced Victorians currently receiving active support.
Eligible applicants are required to complete a free structural assessment of their property with the State-coordinated Clean-up Program and demonstrate commitments to home repairs within 12 months.
“We know a vital part of recovery is getting flood-affected residents living back in their communities. We are responding to the unique needs of each community while keeping a roof over people’s heads,” State Emergency Services Minister Jaclyn Symes said.
“The recovery journey is long, and every flood-affected resident has unique needs – that’s why we’ll keep supporting those who have been through so much.”
The State Government also offers tailored support through the Flood Recovery Support Program for flood-affected Victorians to help connect them to services for business, financial or mental health and well-being support.
