Treasurer reappoints ACCC deputy chair
Treasurer Jim Chalmers has announced that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Deputy Chair Mick Keogh has been reappointed to his role for five more years.
Mr Keogh has served in the position since 2018, after a stint as an associate commissioner. He was also the executive director of the agricultural policy researcher Australian Farm Institute from 2003 to 2018.
ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb welcomed the Treasurer’s announcement, saying that Mr Keogh’s rural and agricultural expertise will be greatly valued.
“Mick’s contributions have been critical to much of the ACCC’s work during the past seven years, including our Murray-Darling Basin water trading inquiry, our agriculture-focused market studies, and our activities in competition exemptions, mergers, product safety and enforcement,” Ms Cass-Gottlieb said.
The ACCC is expected to announce its decision on the $4.9 billion sale of Suncorp’s bank to ANZ in late July.
