Thomson quits WorkCover SA

WorkCover SA CEO Rob Thomson has resigned, citing personal reasons.

No further explanation has been given for the move, which was effective from last Tuesday and comes after two years and three months in the post.

Strategy and Policy GM Gael Fraser is acting CEO until a permanent replacement is recruited.

Workcover SA Chairman Philip Bentley has thanked Mr Thomson, saying he led “major reforms… including the introduction of the experience premium system and the announcement of new claims agent arrangements”.

The authority recently introduced a second authorised claims agent and incentives for employers that reduce claims numbers and improve return-to-work outcomes.

The national return-to-work rate average fell from 86% in 2010/11 to 84% in 2011/12, while SA’s performance slipped from 80% to 77% during the period, according to figures from Campbell Research & Consulting.
