Tassie broker in court

A Tasmanian insurance broker has appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on nine charges brought by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) related to his conduct as a broker from July 2001 until September 2004.

Brendan Manion of Brendan Manion Specialist Insurance Intermediary pleaded guilty to one charge of altering books related to the ASIC investigation. He and his employees placed false invoices on client files before submitting them to ASIC.

He has also been charged with six counts of dishonest conduct related to financial products and services, and two counts of failing to provide written fees statements. He pleaded not guilty to these charges and is due to reappear in court on October 10.
