The Tasmanian Government has met five of 24 recommendations arising from a report following devastating floods two years ago, including applying state planning codes to flood-prone areas.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet is now responsible for co-ordinating infrastructure repairs in major emergencies, and for recovery arrangements.

A “recovery partners network” will bring government and non-government organisations together in recovery efforts.

And Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management Michael Ferguson says the Flood Warning Consultative Committee has agreed to regard the Ouse River as a separate catchment area from the Derwent River basin.

Another seven Blake report recommendations are due to be implemented by the end of the year, including establishment of a flood policy unit led by the State Emergency Service.

Flood classification levels for flood gauges will also be reviewed.
