Tasmania keeps third party premiums on hold
Tasmania’s Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB) will hold off raising compulsory third party (CTP) premiums next year after a fall in claims.
MAIB CEO Peter Roche says rates will not be increased from December 1 because claims lodgements for 2011/12 were down 9% on the previous year.
He says the state’s Government Prices Oversight Commission has allowed an increase of 4.3%, or $15 per car, but this will not be applied. Claims have been trending down for 15 years, enabling the MAIB to hold rates for several years.
Premiums in a number of mainland states and territories are up to 50% higher than those of the MAIB, Mr Roche says.
