States insurance and flood levy inquiry faces further delay

The Senate Economics Committee’s report into state government insurance and the flood levy following this year’s Queensland floods has again been delayed.

The latest delay follows a series of hold-ups in getting information from the Queensland Government, with a Senate spokesman this week telling insuranceNEWS.com.au the committee “is still seeking information from the Queensland Government about its previous attempts to get insurance, particularly for its roads”.

The report was initially due on May 2, but the spokesman says the new date slated for its release is September 22.

Its remit is to examine the provisions of the flood levy bills, current insurance and reinsurance arrangements of the states and territories of their assets and infrastructure and the appropriateness of fiscal arrangements for natural disaster reconstruction efforts.
