SIRA in push for workers' comp transparency

The NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) says it will “be more proactive” in publishing details of workers’ compensation scheme and insurer performance, following transparency recommendations made by the Hayne royal commission.

Compliance and enforcement activity will also be published, SIRA says, while adding there are “some limits” to what can or should be made public.

“We are committed to meeting community expectations and believe that more transparency is in the best interest of SIRA’s customers and will ultimately help to deliver on our strategic goals of improving customer experience and results, maintaining scheme and policy affordability and building public trust.”

SIRA says it has enabled easier access to scheme data by releasing a new open data tool, which makes it easier to view scheme performance data over time.

It has also released its first workers’ compensation enforcement and compliance update, which details action taken against employers, providers and insurers.
