Scammers offer fire services levy ‘refund’
Victoria’s fire services levy (FSL) has become the latest vehicle for a scam to obtain consumers’ bank account details.
The FSL Monitor warns criminals have been calling people and claiming to represent a government department handling the levy.
“The caller falsely states that as a policyholder, you are entitled to a refund for overpayment of your fire services levy,” the monitor said.
The caller asks for bank account details so the “refund” can be paid, but in fact wants access to the account or to onsell the information.
