SA presses on with workers’ comp reforms
ReturnToWorkSA is targeting further improvements after its board approved a list of initiatives outlined in the strategic plan for 2015-18.
The initiatives are designed to support the workers’ compensation scheme’s twin strategic objectives: realising the health benefits of work, and effective operation of the program.
“Our mission is to have a work injury insurance scheme that is affordable, balanced and, most importantly, desirable to workers and employers,” Chairman Jane Yuile said.
“Underpinning the strategic objectives set out in the plan are a range of key initiatives focused on… driving scheme reform and ensuring continued improvements to the service we provide all our customers.”
Initiatives include reinvigorating the re-employment incentive scheme for employers, maintaining and enhancing provider engagement programs and measuring employer and worker satisfaction.
The scheme will also work on clarifying insurer and regulator relationship and boundaries, a new remuneration strategy for claim agents and the efficiency of return-to-work operations.
ReturnToWorkSA was established on July 1 last year, replacing Workers’ Rehabilitation and Compensation.
CEO Greg McCarthy will retire later this year when his contract ends. He has been in the role since 2012 and oversaw key changes to the scheme, including transition from the old program.
“He has achieved a strong turnaround in our performance due to his personal leadership, extensive insurance knowledge and experience in workers’ compensation,” Ms Yuile said. “We greatly appreciate the work he has done.”
