SA prepares to shut CTP body

The Motor Accident Commission in SA will “wind down” next July.

State Treasurer Rob Lucas made the announcement last week, noting the commission stopped underwriting compulsory third party (CTP) policies in July 2016 when the then Labor government privatised it.

“This sensible move is a natural consequence of the… decision to sell off the Motor Accident Commission’s CTP insurance business, which effectively stripped it of its core function,” he said.

AAMI, QBE, SGIC and Allianz are now the state’s approved CTP insurers.

The commission will be abolished once claims made up to June 30 2016 are finalised.
