SA adviser pleads guilty over false applications
Banned financial services adviser Barry David Hassell has admitted dishonest conduct, including submitting false insurance applications.
Hassell, of Athelstone in SA, pleaded guilty at Adelaide Magistrates Court to 39 charges brought by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
The charges were made up of four counts of providing false or misleading information to ASIC, including providing clients’ files containing forged documents; 10 counts of engaging in dishonest conduct, including submitting applications with false information to insurers; and 25 counts of failing to provide a disclosure document to clients.
ASIC says the charges relate to conduct as a director of BD & WJ Hassell between March 2002 and December 2011, when he was an authorised representative of licensees including Guardian Financial Planning and 101 Wealth Solutions.
Hassell will appear in the District Court on November 10 for arraignment.
Each of the charges carries a possible penalty of jail, a fine or both.
