Royal commission to hold February hearing

The royal commission into misconduct in the banking, superannuation and financial services industry will hold an initial public hearing in Melbourne in two weeks.

Commissioner Kenneth Hayne and the senior counsel assisting will make short opening statements, but no witnesses will be called.

The commission – which was formed by the Federal Government in December following a campaign highlighting issues in the banking sector – is accepting submissions through an online form, and says it will advise later on the closing deadline.

An interim report will be delivered to the Government by September 30 and a final report by February next year.

The initial hearing will be at Level 6, 11 Exhibition Street, on February 12 at 10am and will be streamed on the commission’s website.

The form for submissions can be accessed here.
