Queensland names building regulator chair, CEO
The Queensland government has appointed a new leadership team to overhaul the state building regulator.
The government has named Greg Chemello as Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) chair and Angelo Lambrinos as commissioner and CEO. Amelia Hodge will join the board.
“We’re bringing in a new QBCC leadership team to usher in change and deliver reforms, to better protect Queensland consumers, respect builders and make fast and fair decisions,” Housing and Public Works Minister Sam O’Connor said.
The government says Mr Chemello restored public confidence after a period of instability at Ipswich City Council. He was CEO of Economic Development Queensland and of the City of Moreton Bay and deputy director general at the Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning department.
Mr Lambrinos, an engineer with extensive construction experience, has worked for more than 25 years delivering operational reform across projects, including at road operator Transurban.
Ms Hodge brings property and regulatory experience and has held CEO and senior executive roles including at the Australian Property Institute and the Queensland Law Society.
Queensland’s home warranty scheme, which has been under review, sits within the commission, but the government has not said if it will be affected by the changes.
A Housing and Public Works Department spokesperson says the department “continues to work closely with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission on matters relating to the QBCC’s role in supporting the building and construction sector”.
