Queensland building resilience fund given $10 million boost

Queensland Deputy Premier and State Development Minister Steven Miles has announced a further $10 million joint State and Federal Government investment towards building resilience projects across the state.

The minister says the investment, which will be made as part of the Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Fund (QRRRF), will go towards 24 projects for resilient infrastructure, disaster mitigation initiatives, and disaster preparedness assets “from Brisbane to Barcoo and Winton to Wujal Wujal”.

Federal Emergency Management Minister Murray Watt says the investments will “go a long way to better protecting communities right across Queensland”.

“Upfront investment in stronger infrastructure pays dividends for communities during and following disasters. It improves overall safety and gives them the confidence that essential infrastructure is less likely to fail during a disaster,” Mr Watt said.

“The Albanese Government continues to invest in disaster resilience with all State and Territory Governments, and we are committed to being better prepared for the disasters we know Queenslanders will face.”

The Government says next year will mark the final round of the QRRRF with the Federal and State Government’s five-year National Partnership Agreement on Disaster Risk Reduction set to finalise.
