Pratten sentence delayed until March

Sentencing of Rural & General Insurance Brokers founder Charles Pratten was again postponed last week, following two earlier delays.

The hearing was adjourned until March 27 to allow for further pre-sentencing reports.

Earlier this year the NSW Supreme Court found Pratten guilty of seven counts of obtaining by deception a financial advantage from the Commonwealth.

He was arrested under the Project Wickenby investigation into international tax evasion and accused of sending millions of dollars to Vanuatu from his Sydney brokerage between 2003 and 2009.

Sentencing was delayed in July after Pratten changed his legal team, and again in September after his solicitor fell ill.

Justice Stephen Rothman continued Pratten’s bail, which requires him to report to police twice a day.
