Plant takes on expanded icare role

Former QBE executive Tim Plant will take on an expanded role at Insurance & Care NSW (icare) following Steve Hunt’s decision to retire after 12 years leading the self-insurance business.

Mr Plant, who joined in March as group executive innovation, has been appointed to the newly created role of Group Executive, Self-Insurance, Community and Innovation.

“Ultimately, this will accelerate the execution of our strategy to transform icare into a world-class insurance and care organisation,” CEO Vivek Bhatia said.

Mr Plant will continue to lead the icare Foundation and health and community engagement teams.

He was with QBE for more than a decade and led the Australia and New Zealand operations before his departure last year. He has more than 25 years’ experience in insurance and reinsurance.

Mr Hunt, who has not yet set a retirement date, will make a gradual move into the role of Group Executive Self-Insurance Transformation over the next few months, to allow for a smooth transition.

He was responsible for creating both the NSW Self-Insurance Corporation and the Home Building Compensation Fund, and was also a key player in the development of tort law reform in Australia.
