Telematics systems monitor vehicles through GPS data and on-board diagnostics. Fleet operators can track engine hours, fuel usage and live analytics, and drivers can use telematics for better route guidance.

Industry feedback shows an absence of consistent policy on how regulators will use telematics data, hampering uptake of the technology, the commission says.
