The NSW Government announced today CTP Care – a program to provide long-term support for road accident survivors – will formally commence on December 1, following a pilot run that has been operating since October 2020.

CTP Care is the result of reforms to the NSW Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance scheme and will run alongside the existing Lifetime Care and Support Scheme that is administered by state insurer icare.

The program is available for NSW residents five years after their accident. It is estimated between 1300 and 1700 people who are injured in motor accidents each year will have a future entitlement and need for CTP Care services.

CTP Care will cover services including medical treatment like GP visit consultations, pharmaceutical items, psychological services, physiotherapy and exercise physiology.

“We are pleased to launch this new program that will be instrumental in helping people who are faced with long-term impacts following a motor accident,” Minister for Finance Damien Tudehope said.

After CTP Care comes into effect on December 1, people with long-term needs due to a motor accident will begin to transfer to the program at five years from their accident, or earlier if it is agreed they will have ongoing treatment and care needs.

icare CEO and MD Richard Harding says the new program will improve clients’ lives by giving them access to a full range of services that are crucial for them to live a better life with an ongoing injury.

“CTP Care clients who have active needs are assigned a dedicated CTP Care contact person to make the transfer and management of their treatment and care as simple and seamless as possible.”
