NSW broker to stand trial
Former NSW insurance broker Scot Weston has been committed to stand trial in Sydney’s District Court on 10 charges of dishonest conduct and deception.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission says the charges were laid after an investigation into the activities of Interre Insurance Brokers, Hirtes Insurance Brokers and Mr Weston’s conduct as an insurance broker.
Mr Weston is alleged to have engaged in dishonest conduct between June and August 2002 when he forwarded documents to several insureds that claimed to set out details of an insurance policy underwritten by Lloyd’s of London. No such policy existed. He is also alleged to have deceptively forwarded documents to several insureds and the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation between June 2002 and March 2003.
These documents claimed to set out details of insurance policies, leading to the payment of premiums and the issuing of licences by the NSW Minister of Sport and Recreation.
Mr Weston is due to appear before the District Court on June 29.
