NSW bolsters SES storm rescue capabilities
The NSW Government says the State Emergency Service (SES) will be bolstered by a $4.6 million investment in prototype rescue vehicles including six “unimogs” that can operate in flood waters up to 1.2 metres deep.
Police and Emergency Services Minister David Elliott also says a deployable mobile incident command centre has been delivered in preparation for this year’s storm season.
“Communities need to know their local risk, and be ready for the very real possibility of a repeat of recent flooding events, or potentially worse,” he said last week.
A $56.4 million NSW SES fleet replacement program, being funded over four years, is expected to deliver 270 vehicles, 124 marine vessels and 95 trailers across the state, including some of the most flood-prone areas.
