NSW appoints flammable cladding removal overseer
Building firm Hansen Yuncken has been appointed as managing contractor of NSW’s flammable cladding Project Remediate program, which is removing cladding from affected residential buildings in the state.
The project aims to address all flammable cladding across strata buildings by the end of 2023, with the first to be removed by the end of this year.
Hansen Yuncken will oversee the project, providing expertise to Owners Corporations and coordinating solutions for each building, appointing designers, constructors, superintendents and certifiers.
“Flammable cladding remediation isn’t a simple process and Hansen Yuncken will do the hard work on every owner’s behalf to ensure only safe, compliant design solutions are applied to every building,” Minister for Better Regulation Kevin Anderson said.
The NSW government has committed $139 million to the issue and says owners will get an insurable, durable and long-lasting solution, and also benefit from the economies of scale a managing contractor can extract.
“Project Remediate is a gold standard program that will remediate buildings to the highest safety standards,” Mr Anderson said.
