NIBA’s Booth appointed to reinsurance pool panel

National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) CEO Dallas Booth has been appointed to an expert panel advising a Treasury taskforce on the planned northern Australia cyclone reinsurance pool.

Treasury has completed consultations on an initial discussion paper and is working through the approach for the pool, due to start next July backed by a $10 billion Government guarantee.

“A Treasury-led Taskforce is consulting with industry and community representatives, as well as other interested stakeholders, to inform the design of the reinsurance pool," Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

NIBA has said Mr Booth will provide information from the brokers perspective as part of the expert advisory panel, but Treasury declined to name panel members when contacted by insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Feedback on the consultation paper closed on June 18 and Treasury says it will make non-confidential submissions available in due course.

The cyclone and related flooding reinsurance pool, announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison in May, aims to reduce premiums for households, strata properties and small businesses in northern Australia.
