New senior appointments at ASIC
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has made two key appointments.
Current Commissioner Belinda Gibson has been appointment Deputy Chairman, while Shane Tregillis, currently Deputy MD of Market Conduct at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, is the new ASIC Commissioner. Ms Gibson replaces Jeremy Cooper, whose position has been vacant since he left late last year.
ASIC Chairman Tony D’Aloisio says Ms Gibson and Mr Tregillis “both have long experience in corporate regulation and securities and will ensure the commission has the depth and the background to deal with our increasing responsibilities, including market supervision and consumer credit”.
The appointment of Ms Gibson, who joined ASIC as a commissioner in 2007 with responsibility for corporate governance and capital markets, is effectively immediately.
Mr Tregillis will take up his Melbourne-based position on May 17.
