New deputy head for ASIC
Former Blake Dawson Waldron partner Jeremy Cooper is the new Deputy Chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). The position has been vacant since December, when Jeffrey Lucy became Chairman. Mr Cooper has more than 20 years’ experience in company law, and has been a member of the Corporations Committee of the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia since 1995. He is also a regular commentator on corporate law issues.
Treasurer Peter Costello announced Mr Cooper’s appointment last week and also confirmed the reappointment of Berna Collier as an ASIC member for four years.
Professor Collier is a member of the insolvency committee, the company law committee and the banking and finance committee of the Law Council.
