New code for WA WorkCover

WorkCover WA’s new code of practice for insurance brokers is now in the market following the completion of a feedback and consultation process with the industry.

The code was developed in the wake of a 2009 review of workers’ compensation legislation in the state by WorkCover WA in collaboration with the National Insurance Brokers Association.

Workcover WA says the code “recognises the important role insurance brokers play in the application of workers’ compensation and injury management schemes… and aims to assist brokers in meeting their professional obligations”.

Workers’ compensation insurance is an important market for brokers as it can account for 50% of their clients’ insurance needs.

The code of practice includes a checklist for brokers, and also advises brokers to keep employers updated on their legal obligations and the renewal dates for policies.
