New ASIC commissioner for Queensland

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has appointed Victorian lawyer Pamela Hanrahan as Regional Commissioner for Queensland.

Dr Hanrahan joined ASIC in 2008 as Senior Executive Leader, Investment Managers with responsibility for regulation of Australia’s managed investments sector.

Prior to this she was Deputy Director of the Centre for Corporate Law and Securities Regulation at the University of Melbourne and has worked as a senior lawyer in private practice.

Dr Hanrahan is also an Associate Professor of Law at Melbourne Law School.

ASIC Chairman Tony D’Aloisio says regional commissioners play a vital role in helping the regulator understand local issues and developments.

“Dr Hanrahan’s appointment in Queensland continues the tradition of appointing someone to the role with outstanding credentials,” he said. “It underlines ASIC’s strong commitment to its regional role and focus.”

Dr Hanrahan replaces Maree Blake who has been Queensland Regional Commissioner since 2008.
