More to be done on workplace fatalities, says compo council

The Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) has concluded its final meeting by recommending further initiatives to reduce work-related fatalities in Australia.

ASCC Chairman Bill Scales says council reports show while progress is being made to reduce work-related fatalities, “more needs to be done and more can be done to ensure safer workplaces”.

The ASCC has commissioned a study on asbestos exposure and compliance in two potentially exposed trade occupations. The study will examine levels of awareness and knowledge of risk assessment requirements.

Last week’s meeting in Canberra was the last before the council is restructured to become Safe Work Australia.
