More regulation to come
Despite refinements to the Financial Services Reform Act last year, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer Chris Pearce says more regulation is coming.
In a speech to financial planners last week, Mr Pearce said he will be seeking comments on additional refinements to financial services regulation.
“Some of these additional changes were raised during last year’s refinements process,” he said. “But I intend going further than just considering financial services regulation.”
Mr Pearce says the time is right to explore ways in which other aspects of corporate and financial services regulation can be improved – for example, company reporting obligations and corporate governance.
He says the Government intends to use information collected during a consultative process to determine what refinements can be used to improve corporate and financial services regulation in the short term.
