Man pleads guilty to workers' compensation fraud

A man has pleaded guilty to defrauding the NSW workers’ compensation scheme after a State Insurance Regulatory Authority investigation.

The investigation found that Luis Manuel Farinha Alves failed to disclose other income while receiving workers’ compensation payments.

Mr Alves was charged with obtaining a financial advantage by deception/dishonesty under section 192E (1)(b) of the NSW Crimes Act 1900.

He pleaded guilty in the Downing Centre Local Court to the charges on June 24, with the maximum penalty carrying up to 10 years’ imprisonment. He will be sentenced on August 24.
