Lawyers call for consistency in accident compensation
Law firm Slater & Gordon has called for greater consistency in the maximum compensation limits paid to victims of motor accidents, with Queensland trailing the other eastern states.
Slater & Gordon lawyer Abraham Arends says the maximum Queensland limit of $250,000 for pain and suffering is inadequate compared to the NSW limit of $408,000 and the Victorian maximum of $450,000.
“Severely injured Queenslanders are being treated like second-class citizens when compared to those injured across the border in NSW, and that’s just not fair,” he said.
The law firm says recent changes to legislation that will see the Queensland limit increase to around $290,000 from July 1 do not go far enough.
