Kids to learn natural disaster safety

An education program for children focusing on natural hazards has been launched by the State Emergency Service agencies.

The “Li’L Larrikins” program will run on national TV and feature cartoons about storms, cyclones, floods and tsunamis.

Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland says there will be 10 different 30-second awareness messages.

“Programs like ‘Li’L Larrikins’ bring, in a fun way, the principle of self-reliance to 5-10 year-olds by demonstrating the actions that they can take to stay safe in the event of a natural disaster,” he said.

The Federal Government has funded the program through the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council.
