Jane Hume appointed Financial Services Minister

Victorian Senator Jane Hume has been named as the new Assistant Minister for Financial Services, Superannuation and Financial Technology, with oversight of the general insurance industry.

In the last government Ms Hume was the chair of the Economics Legislation Committee and deputy government whip in the Senate.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison named the new cabinet over the weekend. Josh Frydenberg remains as Federal Treasurer and Michael Sukkar has been promoted to Assistant Treasurer.

Former Assistant Treasurer Stuart Robert – whose portfolio included the insurance sector – has been appointed Minister for Government Services and Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) welcomed “the naming of a strong economic team” in the new Cabinet.

“ICA has previously worked with Mr Frydenberg, Mr Sukkar and Senator Hume, and on behalf of the insurance industry we look forward to building on our existing strong relationship,” a spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
