Insurance broker to stand trial
Victorian insurance broker Anthony Ryan has been committed in the Melbourne Magistrates Court to stand trial on seven dishonesty charges.
Mr Ryan reserved his plea yesterday on charges that he dishonestly using his position to gain an advantage for himself or another regarding the business he transacted through Interre Insurance Brokers for risks placed with QBE Mercantile Mutual during 2003 and 2004.
He is also charged with dishonest conduct in relation to the operation of a financial services business under the Corporations Act.
These charges follow allegations that Mr Ryan received insurance premiums on behalf of Interre Insurance Brokers, but failed to remit the full amount to the brokerage.
Mr Ryan was bailed to appear in the Melbourne County Court on August 31.
