Income drop, expenses blowout dent WorkCover WA profit
WorkCover WA’s profit fell by more than half to $8.5 million in the year to June 30, down from $17.9 million the previous year.
The slide is partly due to a drop in overall income, to $31.4 million from $39.3 million.
Insurers’ contributions fell slightly to $21.48 million from $21.49 million, and the employee benefits expense increased to $14.89 million from $13.96 million.
Overall expenses blew out to $23.09 million from $21.57 million as claims expenses increased to $2.01 million from $1.26 million.
Of the seven complaints made against the scheme’s nine approved insurers in the year, one was substantiated and another remained under investigation at June 30. The annual report does not provide details.
Two other complaints were deemed outside the scheme’s jurisdiction.
Self-insuring entities had two complaints.
