icare invites funding pitches for return-to-work ideas

Innovators with fresh ideas for helping people return to work are invited to apply for funding under a $5 million investment program launched by the Insurance & Care NSW (icare) Foundation.

The WorkUp program will provide both financial support and expertise to help successful applicants advance proposals.

Foundation GM Amanda Keogh says applicants could include start-ups, social ventures and community development organisations that can offer initiatives not used before in the workers’ compensation system.

Around 77% of injured workers return to employment within three month, but those away for long periods face greater risk of social isolation and psychosocial issues that can delay their recovery.

“The problem we hope to solve is persistent and complex, so bringing fresh thinking to bear is key,” Ms Keogh said.

“The commitment from icare is incredibly high which is why we are providing $5 million in funding, as well as taking the time to co-design potential programs to give our partners every possible opportunity to be successful in their pitch.”

Applicants are asked to initially explain their ideas in less than 200 works, with expressions of interest due by June 29.

Shortlisted candidates will receive coaching and assistance to refine proposals before final pitching and selection.
