ICA applauds improvements to WA tow truck pricing transparency
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has welcomed reforms from the WA Government requiring tow truck operators to disclose maximum towing and storage fees.
The Government announced amendments to the Road Traffic (Vehicles) Regulations 2014 legislation on October 31 to address growing fees and poor conduct by tow truck industry members.
The changes require tow truck operators to inform road accident victims of the maximum cost of their services and no longer allow them to charge additional undisclosed fees.
ICA praised the changes but says more work needs to be done to improve consumer experience and industry accountability.
“These measures are a step in the right direction for improving pricing transparency and accountability, and something that the Insurance Council has long called for,” ICA CEO Andrew Hall said.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure reforms are implemented promptly and effectively for the benefit of all WA motor vehicle owners.”
